The NewClips editorial team is based by Lake Constance – but you already knew that!

But don’t worry, we’re not really trying to make your mouth water with this article. That said, if you ever fancy stopping by the editorial office near Lake Constance and feel like a relaxing weekend in one of Germany’s most beautiful spots – we’ve got just the thing for you!

At our recent editorial meeting, we discovered some real insider tips and came away with a genuine enthusiasm for the “Lake Constance landscape.”
Papageno in Constance won us over completely! What impressed us most was the exceptional flexibility of the kitchen. Here you can truly mix and match the menu with à la carte dishes to your heart’s content. Chef and owner Patrick Stier manages to combine a wonderfully down-to-earth restaurant aesthetic with his gourmet cuisine in a fascinating way. Every plate is a small work of art, convincing through its finesse and creativity.
I was able to tell him as much in person when we said our goodbyes — well deserved. The wine list is well curated, and a particularly charming touch was presenting the empty wine bottle on the table afterwards. It shows an attention to detail and a willingness to think about the (seemingly) small things. The service was consistently friendly and professional!
We felt extremely comfortable in this almost hidden gem right on the border with Switzerland. The atmosphere is rustic yet elegant, the food at star level. All in all, a culinary highlight not to be missed.
And we’ll probably have to visit Patrick Stier again soon, as he is moving to a new location in the old town. We’re very much looking forward to the new Papageno (Untere Laube 47) in Constance, with around 50 seats. Can’t wait!
Staader Fährhaus in Constance was a solid restaurant experience. Tucked behind a small sailing harbour near the Meersburg–Constance ferry, it offers an idyllic atmosphere by the lake. Our six-course menu was well balanced and attractively presented.
We sat comfortably in a small pavilion that provided a pleasantly secluded atmosphere. A little more information about the dishes served would have been nice, though the owner explained this was a deliberate choice to preserve calm during the meal. The service was very friendly, if somewhat reserved. Value for money was fair, and the regional wine selection was convincing, even if the very small print on the wine list made reading it somewhat tricky. All in all, a recommendable restaurant.
Brauhaus Joh. Albrecht, right in the heart of Constance’s old town, promises a real brewery experience just as you’d hope for! Authentic atmosphere meets friendly staff, with fresh food and drinks that delight. The beer in particular stands out — craft-brewed and anything but run-of-the-mill. Prices are fair, the ambience inviting. Well worth a visit!
A historic jewel by Lake Constance – Steigenberger Inselhotel
Our stay at the Steigenberger Inselhotel in Constance was simply incomparable. The moment you enter the hotel, you sense a tranquillity that is rarely found in other hotels — even in this category. The location by Lake Constance could not be more perfect: the generous terrace invites you to let your gaze drift over the glittering water over coffee and cake. The highlight: the direct lawn with access to the lake. At the Steigenberger Inselhotel Constance, nature, luxury and history come together — the perfect retreat for a weekend of relaxation.
But it’s not just the scenery that impresses. Historically, the Steigenberger Inselhotel has a great deal to offer: originally founded in 1236 as a Dominican monastery, its restored walls and the detailed murals in the cloister today offer a fascinating glimpse into past centuries. Anyone looking for a blend of history and modern comfort will find it here.
Whether for a few quiet days or a special occasion — the Steigenberger Inselhotel offers far more than just a place to sleep. It is a place where you can simply let go. And the perfect location right next to the wonderful old town of Constance, along with the many exciting excursion options around the lake, rounds off any holiday beautifully.
