A paradise for children, nature lovers, windsurfers and golfers.

Denmark, where the happiest people live! The west coast is a paradise for children, nature lovers, windsurfers and golfers. Whether you travel to our northern neighbour Denmark by car or fly from Frankfurt to Billund in just under an hour is entirely up to you. Denmark is a friendly country with helpful people who, according to numerous studies, count themselves among the happiest and most contented in the world.

This is partly down to the little word “HYGGE” — perhaps best translated as cosy or homely. That is exactly how we experienced the Hjerting Badehotel too, situated right on the beach in the upper-class promenade village of Hjerting. This historically rich establishment is a very beautiful hotel, furnished in keeping with its character. It offers a gourmet restaurant, “Restaurant Strandpavillonen.”

The boardwalk and sandy beach for children and adults, right across the road, are also superb. Free sun loungers are available for hotel guests. When it comes to rooms, you should absolutely insist on booking one with a sea view — or even the wonderful suite on the first floor with an unforgettable outlook over the Ho Bay, Skallingen, the island of Langli and Fanø, as the sun sinks into the sea while you sit on your balcony with a glass of wine. Spectacular!

And the next morning, enjoy the wonderful Danish “morgenmad” — a regional breakfast buffet with home-baked bread and “grove rundstykker.” There are so many things to explore from the Hjerting Badehotel, wonderfully accessible by hire bicycle or car: shopping in the nearby Esbjerg pedestrian zone or the adjacent shopping centre, visiting museums or playing the nearby golf courses.

Incidentally, Denmark is the ideal place for a great many sports. Golf is a popular pastime and therefore very affordable. Denmark has, for example, comparatively the highest number of golf courses relative to its population, and certainly some of the finest.

The Badehotel has green fee agreements with many golf clubs offering a reduction of 200 kroner. 12 golf clubs lie within a radius of 5–50 km! Particularly recommended are GK Varde, GK Esbjerg, Golfklub Gyttegård and the spectacular links course on the island of Fanø.

Of course! If you have children, one thing absolutely must be on the sightseeing list: Legoland! Haven’t you been to Legoland Denmark yet? Then go — quickly! The original is superior to all other parks in many details. You sit in the western town (“Legoredo Town”), leisurely enjoying your spare ribs and listening to the Rattlesnakes — famous from the “Grand Prix” — while your children try out the many great attractions in Legoland.
